Chaslyn M. is from Deninu Kue First Nation or Fort Resolution, Northwest Territories, Canada.  She is Dene/Cree. Chaslyn speaks Denesuline (Chipewyan) which is the language of the people in the treaty 8 territory. She is currently in high school aiming to get a secondary school diploma and eventually move onto study for a degree in marine sciences. She was given the opportunity to work a summer student program with DKFN and Department of Fisheries and Oceans to do a fish and water monitoring study program, recording and collecting data for scientists and the first nations. This experience taught traditional and modern knowledge/skills. It was also a chance for Chaslyn to be out on the land which she enjoys very much as it is a part of her Dene culture.  She was taught the language at a young age and is proud to be able to continue to speak it in her young adulthood. She enjoys playing sports, growing up, hockey, track and field, soccer, volleyball, baseball, Dene/Arctic games etc. were everyday things for her and her classmates and they excelled, winning many tournaments in any sport they played. In 2016 she broke a record and placed first in discus at the SHSSA provincial track meet held in Regina, SK that year.

She also enjoys music; at 5 she began teaching herself to play piano. At 13 she started playing the guitar. Chaslyn has been singing her entire life. Competing in talent shows, singing and dancing since she was 2, she still enjoys singing.
