Profile

Alana is a 2016 Dean’s List graduate of the University of British Columbia’s Okanagan Campus. With a passion for people, culture, history, and writing, her Bachelor’s Degree majored in Anthropology, and minored in English Literature. Although she worked part time during her degree, she did have the opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. in 2015 to attend the American Anthropology Association’s annual conference, as well as to Scotland on her own in 2016 to attend a student run Archaeology Conference.

Having finished her Degree, Alana missed her creativity, and decided to go back to school to obtain a Floral Design Certificate. Once completed, Alana developed her passion further by opening up her own home business, Wild Ginger Floral Design. In the future she hopes to find a career utilizing her passion for people and art, perhaps in tourism or marketing. Alana’s other interests include clothing design, painting, sketching, gardening, camping, cooking, and writing.

Alana has always had a passion for learning, teaching, and helping others. She has been a volunteer on the YMCA Youth Advisory Council in high school, and the Anthropology Student Union in University. Alana strove to help others learn in the classroom, but also in the work place as she became a certified trainer for new employees. In her first year of full time post-secondary Alana also taught six “Lil’Ninjas” Karate classes a week to children ages 4-6, while working at elsewhere on the weekends. She trained in Karate for over 11 years, and has competed in tournaments both locally and nationally.

Alana strives to be a positive influence on the world around her. She aims to fight for female education, healthcare, and equality world-wide, and to prove that you can be strong, intelligent, beautiful, and artistic, no matter what the rest of society thinks.
