Helen was born at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney, NS. She is attending the Allison Bernard Memorial High School in Eskasoni, NS. She speaks Mi'kmaq which is her first language and also speaks English. She has many awards that relate to her Mi'kmaq language and speaking. She has won Most outstanding student for Mi'kmaq immersion graduation in Grade 3, was awarded 2nd for Mi'kmaq speech festival, and got Mi'kmaq princess in 2016 during the Eskasoni Winter Carnival Pageant. She was raised in a First Nation community in Cape Breton. Helen works with different volunteering groups such as the Interact Club with her high school, Youth Council. \\u000bHelen was awarded valedictorian of her grade 9 graduating class, School board award which is a Mi’kmaq award and also Female athlete of the year. This year she was awarded Honours with distinction. She loves playing many different sports, she mostly plays Basketball. She is going to North American Indigenous games as they call NAIG, 2017 for Basketball playing for Team NS. Helen has had couple of her sketches in the Cape Breton University art show, and also helped with a Mural painting for the University. She loves to sketch, she loves sketching things that relate to nature and her culture. Helen enjoys being around children and enjoys having children in her care.
