Petapen (in English, it is pronounced beh-da-bin which translates to “dawn/early morning”) was born in Happy Valley - Goose Bay located in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. She is of Innu descent and has spent her time living on the Sheshatshiu Innu First Nation Reserve located in the same province of birth. Her community is made up of a population of close to 2000 people with approximately 60% being youth under the age of 18.

Recently completing grade 9, she will be attending Level 1 at the Lake Melville School in September of 2017. Her favorite subjects in school are Math and Science. Besides going to school, she enjoys spending time playing hockey, listening to music and hunting. Out of her favorite things to do, she appreciates having the opportunity to spend time on the land as a way, to be able to practice and build her knowledge base with regards to her Innu culture.

In the past, Petapen has volunteered time working with younger children in summer recreation programs in her community and hopes to continue having opportunities that will support her to contribute to her community in a positive way. This will be Petapen’s first year participating in a pageant and looks forward to the experience, especially being able to meet new people from other ethnicities. She is proud to represent her community at this year’s 2017 Miss Canada Globe Pageant in the Miss Teen category. She hopes to be a role model to other young women and would encourage everyone to never stop believing in themselves. Although history has been written, we can be authors going forward.
